![]() I have had aquariums for the last 30 years and have purchased my fish and supplies from cayes since the late 70's. Even when i lived in eastern oregon, the only place i purchased them was from cayes. the guys there know their stuff. mtmama 12:38:38 10/18/2009 |
![]() Easily the best fish store in the portland area. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, and in the rare case they aren't sure, they will look it up right there. They have a great selection of common and uncommon (try finding an axolotl ANYWHERE else, even online). And it is the only place i know of that will hold fish for you without buying it. They will also watch or treat your fish if you need. andrew 19:38:59 7/15/2009 |
![]() First of all where else in portland can you bring in your trade in fish and actually get credit. Cayes.. They look over the fish to make sure they don`t end up with disease trade-ins. When I brought in my trade-ins I was given 1/3 of retail in fish trade.. So that 15.00 credit was pretty darn close..IF they were actually 25.00. Most times I see them they are 15.00ea. Cayes is not impossible to get around either.. They keep the tanks very clean and offer a great guarantee on their fish even trade-ins from other peoples bad water tank!!! munchkin 00:38:44 4/30/2009 |
![]() impossible to get around. there are hundreds of tanks stuffed in a double wide trailer. very ghetto, ok fish and prices. never trade in though. they gave me 15$ for TWO huge albino oscars. and turned around and sold them for 25$ a piece. bruce is the only thing keeping that place running!!! d3rok 12:29:50 4/15/2009 |

Bad fish, Awful staff! Stay clear! Kelly 05:11:38 3/09/2006 |
both times I visited this store the staff was clueless. They didn't have a good variety of fish, and once a staff member was very rude! I will never visit this store again. Terry Jones 05:00:59 3/09/2006 |
I have had a mixed experience at Caye's. I have made several marine fish purchases there, and have found the people to be friendly and helpful. However, I just purchased my first invert: a white Sebae anenome. After some research (which I should have done prior, I know), I learned that a Sebae should NOT be white. It has launched its symbiotic algae and is starving to death. There is a small chance of saving it. I have called the store and let them know. They were very nice, but did not offer anything in exchange, saying that they had sold many of these without complaint. Not a surprise, since it can take months for an anenome to die of starvation, and they have a reputation as "delicate", partly due to unhealthy animals being sold in the trade. My assumption (generous perhaps) is that the folks Cayes's didn't know this. However, it doesn't take much in the way of research to learn it, and they should be more expert in this area. i grew up going to this store and knew the original caye back in the late 60's. but when ken and darleen took over i really started hanging out there. basically a caye'sgroupie in my formative yrs. after a brief foray into herps, birds and other exotic fauna, they have gone back to the tried and true method of superb fish and great prices. the 2 co owners now are great guys, willing to order what u need and possessing decades of knowledge. plus ken and darleen i bet are still available for consultations! fishboi 01:01:28 11/08/2004 |
