![]() It's sad that the store is going under due to the owners poor business skills owing everyone money, incl the help. I have purchased quite a bit thru the store in the past. I am glad to see the owner loose it! joey fins 13:30:57 1/04/2012 |
![]() I have a 200 gal saltwater tank and have made 85% of my purchases from fishtopia and enjoyed each purchase. staff is great, very helpful and willing to sit and explain and answer any and all questions I had. very knowledgable. I have nothing negative to say about this great little fish shop. thanks guys!!! as far as for those who have left negative reviews about live purchases going wrong....you cant blame the shop. each tank is different and each living item is different and not everything is compattable. know your own...next time bring the magnifying glass with you if it will make you feel better....hahah...always QUARANTINE YOUR NEWBIES.........saves alot money, time and BLAME... kristi 07:08:14 10/01/2011 |
![]() We bought a blue lobster from this store and it was only my second purchase from them. Not knowing much about the lobster they told me everything I needed to know. And he is still alive! The store is clean and the staff friendly. I will continue to purchase my fish from them when needed. jenny 10:25:15 9/08/2011 |
![]() by barber 08/12/2011 prices are very high. poor selection. i bought my first acro frag. when i look at it more closely when i got it home, i noticed a dead spot on the bottom of the frag. i waited a few days maybe a week to give it a chance. it continued to lose color so i called fishtopia back. they were very rude on the phone. they would only give me 50% credit towards something else. that being said it wasnt worth the hour ride there so i figured id just keep it. days later upon closer inspection with a magnifying glass i noticed red acro mites. im just glad that was the only acro i had. i feel really bad for people with more extensive acro colections. all my other sps are doing great so the comment the guy on the phone made about it being my water quality was false. just rude people and bad costumer service. i tell everyone so they wont go there either. if they were not so rude and actaully tried to solve the problem i wouldent be leaving this negative review barber 17:30:40 8/12/2011 |
![]() Honestly, the guys at Fishtopia were so knowledgeable and helpful! My boyfriend is a fish hobbyist and had a chiclid tank before we purchased a biocube. We had no knowledge of salt water tanks and these guys pointed us in the right direction the whole way! They didn't try to upsell us or sell us things we didn't need. For everyone else, maybe try doing research first. We obviously knew to start small and with a tank that is easy to maintain. Kaylee, a very satisfied customer 15:15:30 7/22/2011 |
![]() If a fish infected a tank.. you are the problem not Fishtopia... they should be quarenteened.. uhhh duh... learn.. weep and learn some more.. DONT BLAME THE FISH PLACE FOR YOUR LACK OF KNOWING WHAT TO DO WITH A NEW FISH.... GOODLUCK 06:58:25 7/22/2011 |
![]() Another story of sick fish infecting a tank. Will never buy here again Mike 07:05:32 4/10/2011 |
![]() Gotta say that fishtopia is def the best around the area , i have been going there for a long time and get all my stuff for my 3 tanks there . People say what they want but they do know ALOT!! ![]() Let me address a few comments... Yellow Tangs are no longer the "neon tetra" of the marine hobby. They are very expensive to get into a store, for the past few years at least. So, depending on the size of the fish, $59 is an ok price. I've spent a lot of time in that store, both new and old and both for frshwater and saltwater and I've NEVER seen a painted molly. I asked them about tattooed mollys just for the hell of it once and I was told they refuse to carry/sell them. To the person with the new tank and nobody told you not to put 6 fish in your tank, I've worked in retail before, "US" general public that think we know everything can make it very difficult to sell proper things to. I guarantee that at least 95% of what is recommended is not followed through with. So, it's really no different than buying a dog or a bird. Do your own research before you go to a store. Ultimately it is your responsibility not somebody making $7 an hour. Bettas live in mud puddles and rice patties. A bowl is perfectly appropriate. Especially since they are in the store for what? 3-4 days? Get over it. Prices are prices. It's not a flea market, they are what they are. Go to Greenwich Aquaria or Jawz. Take a loan out if you want to buy something. $59.99 for a cleaner shrimp? OK. If it doesn't look good, don't buy it. Man people suck. A guy tries to make a living and create jobs and generate tax money from a small business and has to deal with "internet tough guys" smashing his hard work with nonsense....I lose more and more faith in the human race every day...... |
![]() this is more directed at the kid that is blaming fishtopia for the demise of his tank. you offer a prime example of why we recommend QUARANTINING any and all new fish and plants. it doesnt matter if its the best fish store on earth, the stress of fish changing hands from importer/wholesaler to retailer to your tank is extremely stressful on the fish, weakening their immune system, allowing diseases and parasites that would normally be kept in check to sometimes take over. its NOT fishtopias fault you decided not to quarantine your new purchase, it is yours. hopefully youve learned your lesson. as to the store itself...locally its really all we have. ive seen better stores, ive seen far worse stores. and i never expect a pet store employee to know more than the price of any animal. how much research would you invest when youre being paid just over minimum wage? in all its not a bad place, but like most pet shops, it leaves room for improvement. ![]() Fishtopia was a great store before they moved to new location. Now there quantity and quality are terrible. The staff could care less on giving good advice on fish. I recently bought a freshwater chilid took it home acclimated it and added to my very nice and prestine tank. Within a week I had ICH,FLUKES,COSTIA etc. It destroyed my fish and my hard work to get an keep my prestine tank. WILL never shop there again. I would like to say that the reason they don't take fish in is , I was told by an employee that the fish they were taking in were messing up there tanks, unfortunily I found this out the day after I bought that chilid. If anybody out there would like to respond to this with good review or a review like mine, I'm open to both due to everybodys opinons. WILL never step foot in Fishtopia AGAIN. I will tell all of my friends in the hobby to not even bother with this store. I have found much better shops with much better SERVICE AND LIVESTOCK AND PRICE. ONE OF MANY DISGRUNTLED CUSTOMERS 07:03:22 2/07/2010 |
![]() Great selection of inverts/corals. Very nice. Don't know about all these "good" reviews, but when I walked in, the fish didn't seem that great. Three yellow tangs were white and sickly and $59 apiece!!! Yes, for a yellow tang. Not a large selection of dry goods either. Never bought a thing from them. Prices are crazy high. Had my 175G reef tank over 8 years. Been to most fish stores within 60 mile vicinity and this guy has the highest prices. |
![]() I used to have a 55 gallon salt water tank and for the most part I bought everything I had from fishtopia. In the area they seem the best and whenever I would get a fish from anywhere else it would die. When I went I always would talk to Jessie. He always seemed to be the most knowledgable and helped me get what was right for my tank. Mike Tompkins 05:57:11 8/26/2009 |
![]() Love this place! Fish are beautiful! They really helped me out when my fish were sick. Good advice. pjf 10:47:24 8/24/2009 |
![]() Great items to choose from and very knowledagable. Just purchased a tank from them (used) but hooked me up with the right stuff. Rob Z 08:12:46 5/12/2009 |
![]() We need to frequent these places to ensure that they remain in business. Yes, they are a little pricey, but the fish stay alive. Whereas PETCO fish are half dead in the store. Plus the selection here is amazing. Ghost Shrimp, fiddler crabs and that's just a few examples of the fresh water unique fish they have. As far as Salt Water stuff, you will be happy once you get there. Customer service can be lacking. Some of the guys that work there are always sneaking a cigarette out in front of the store and exhaling inside making the place stink, but then again all good fish store have to smell like something. Again, the customer service is just OK. Of course you'd be a fool to actually buy you tank set-up supplies and apparatus there, but for fish there is no other choice in the area. Dan 15:16:46 1/31/2009 |
![]() some of the employees are knowledgeable and will help you but some of them will tell you that you can buy like anything. this one guy toldme that i could buy a 3 foot eel for my 36 gallon tank and tht it could go with all my tiny fish but other than that they are very knowledgeable and nice and i will deffinately buy from them again. Derek Baisley 12:35:43 1/17/2009 |
![]() Nice place with nice stuff. Pricey though. Like anywhere else it all depends on who you get. I went there today and got helped by one guy at first that really gave me the chills. He told me whatever he needed to, to get me to buy something that i knew was completely wrong both for me and just in general. A little later while browsing their very impressive live stock displays another gentleman there approached us and was on the other side of the spectrum. Very helpful and some what knowledgeable and was NOT trying to stuff my "Cart" with items i didn't need. All in all I'd say I'm going back there because they do have a very good selection and for the reef hobbyist it is nice to find a "walmart" of the reef world so theres one place you can go for everything. I will more than likely have to spend a good amount of time haggling with them every time i go in to buy something because their prices are way on the high side BUT thats a small price to pay to get local service with a very good selection only a short drive away. There specimens are very healthy and generally seem to be kept well. Thats always a plus. I saw one tang with ick but honestly its very difficult to find a hippo in a LFS without ick. They get ick if you look at them the wrong way. Joey 21:43:40 1/05/2009 |
![]() This is a great store. The folks are knowledgable, and they have a great selection. There were a big help when our fish got 'ick' and they recommended the course of action to take. Will buy from them again. Anita Morgan 13:18:13 7/13/2008 |
![]() The employees are helpful and somewhat knowledgeable, but none of them discouraged me from buying 6 fish when they knew my tank wasn't cycled. Thank goodness for the internet or I would have known nothing about it. One look at the tankful of painted silver mollies and I knew I would never buy anything there again. And the bettas live in very poor conditions. Boo for Fishtopia Nan 07:28:58 4/27/2008 |
![]() I have started replacing Fish Tanks, and Dave and the guys were of great help. Got a very good price on a tank, which is a lot lighter then the old one. Dave also order the mounting bracket for a light. What ever your needs Fishtopia will meet them, and then some. Thanks guys. Freida Barry 06:23:17 4/05/2008 |
![]() This little shop is packed with a fantastic array of exotic freshwater, tropical saltwater and some land reptiles. Tanks extra large and small as well as everything you'll need to maintain your pride and joy. Personnel is also very knowledgable in nearly all aspects, a big a bonus! I found everything I needed in this fishtopia. |
