 The new management has done wonders there. They are a good bunch of people to deal with. I've had stuff special ordered that I needed at a fair price. I've picked up stuff for a new large tank I sat up. I've asked questions and Brad has been so helpful. Perhaps it didn't use to be all that, but now it is a nice store to visit. Dubey's is now under new ownership and managment. Dubey's has cleaned up a lot they have painted the walls, cleaned the floors and through away a lot of junk. They cleaned up the fish tanks even getting in salt water fish. They have also painted the reptile room and have started to carry more reptiles they even try to care a baby reptile and a full grown one to show you the size it will be so they will be no questions on size when it gets full grown. They have painted and wall papered the bird room and got a bigger cage for the Macaws. And if you are looking for rabbits, farets,hamters and even feeder mice or rats(live and frozen) they carry them also. If you need something special or just a question ask for Brad and he will be glad to help you. What I am trying to say is give them another chance because they are localy owned and we need to shop the stores that are localy owned to help out our neighbor in these time. Been shopping there for years staff has always been helpful. Have purchased many animals and fish. Always satisfied. Just stop in to talk to the big birds and check out the fish. Never seen any suffering animals. Will continue to go. Wendy 18:01:59 2/11/2009 |
Ummmm. Well I used to work there. It is a sad but true story behind the scenes. Not only are the fish neglected, but so are almost every animal in the store. Sick animals are hidden in the back office where they most of the time die a lonely, cold, and painful death. It is as Vet care is not worth the cost in comparison to the cost of the animal. Employees there are seriously underpaid and expected to do work loads in half the time needed to perform each task properly. Big example is the so called hot room. This is where rodents, reptiles, and some birds are housed. 99% of the time the cages are NOT cleaned. This is not the employees fault! The employer has the employee come in at 9:30 am and expects every animal in the store (excluding the fish) to be fed, watered, and specific cages clean by 2:00 pm at the latest. If you have or ever go in the store, you will see how it is a complete impossibility. On top of the time issue: $5.50 an hour is not going to cut it when you have to deal with so many animals which most of them do bite! The high prices come because they can only order so many items at a time vs PetSmart where they can order a large lot and give excellent prices. All in all if you want a good deal and healthy pets, go somewhere else. This applies to better prices on pet supplies as well. To educate everyone out there: 1. There is NO guarantee on their reptiles, 2. The guarantee on the fish is too short, most of the tanks are contaminated with some form of fish disease, and you get a hassle when you try to get a fish replaced (Never mind the $50 fish that dies due to the fish you purchased there.) 3. It is an overall unfair business for the workers and the consumers. It is worth driving all the way to Elon to go to PetSmart to stay clear of this store. Used To Work There 15:38:56 12/28/2007 |
dubey's in burlington is the only fish store i go to they have always came through and found me the fish i am looking for at the best prices around. tanks may have some algea but as long as the fish are healthy i don't care. nice selection of fish supplies also! tony 12:21:48 12/27/2007 |
