![]() This year I've started my second discus tank after taking a break from aquariums for a couple of years and my usual discus supplier in San Jose has gone out of business. I've bought five discus from Sunrise and all seem healthy and none are losing their color. The discus prices are reasonable, in my opinion. I also bought a Rena Filstar xP2 filtration system there for a price which was about as low as I could find on the internet. I'm completely satisfied thus far. Anthony Raymond 14:41:11 2/21/2008 |
![]() This store is trial and error, it seems like 3 out of 5 times you buy from them, you end up not happy. That's my case, bought discust there and 3 out of 5 times, the discus either are discolored, not happy or died after a few weeks. The owner, Toni, is not honest, won't give you a lot of advice and try to upsell a lot. I once heard him talking to another customer in Mandarin and agreed to not charge tax as long as the customer pay cash. But when I asked for the same deal, he said ' we don't do illegal transactions here', duh? It almost makes me puke for him to say that thinking I don't understand Mandarin. After that I stopped buying from him, there are better places to buy discus from. tsaykap 14:19:22 9/08/2006 |
![]() I've been to this store and all the fish looked healthy to me. The tanks are very clean and the prices on both dry and wet goods are reasonable. I'm not much into discus but I would buy them here. Randy 20:20:55 6/12/2006 |
![]() This store is a rip-off, I read so much good reviews on his website that was posted by buyers all over (which I guess he made all that up and posted it on his own website). So I went there and bought a few. I followed his instruction bought everything there and after a week pigments start to come out and color start fading. this is not a good fish to start with it was hormoned obviously and also advertising free shiping which again another way of ripping people who doesn't know better. One example: he's selling frozen blood worm $4.60 free ship the actual price is just $2.51 at bio pure his ripping people for over $75 thats way too much for a shipping cost anywhere in the U.S. Just a thought if the review your reading is to good to be true TONY probably made that up... If the review is negative thats probably true... If you want to find out yourself, well go ahead and get rip-off... jack 03:40:34 10/14/2005 |
![]() I have purchase well over $600 worth of discus from this store and they are all thriving and getting more beautiful as they grow. Fading colors and discus turning black is also a sign of a fish that is not maintained in a healthy environment. I have foud Tony to behelpful, friendly and knowledgable. I would recommend this store to anybody who is serious about keeping discus. Bill S. 13:44:54 10/13/2005 |
![]() WARNING:HORMONED DISCUS! Beware! to all DISCUS lovers out there NEVER even try buying fish in this store BIG regret dont be fooled I been a victim dont let it happen to you. Good looks could be decieving. I bought a $600 worth of a very beautiful DISCUS at least thats what I thought after a few days the bright colors start to fade and as weeks goes by it gets even worst black pigments start to come out at the same time fading its color. I ask few people and fish store's who handled this kind of fish they told me its a sign that the DISCUS FISH was hormoned and the fish is on withdrawal symptoms ( fading colors, black pigments) and hormone also cause sterility so theres no way you can spawn if your planning in the future. Store owner's name is TONY a big time lier... its website is www.sunrisetropicals.com and www.mrdiscus.com if you still want risk big money on this go ahead but you just been warned... For your curiosity what happen to my DISCUS fish, well I'm still keeping it even though they lost their beauties and turn into uglyduclings. I learned to love them i just hope they grew up as a beautiful swan. Honestly every time I look at my fish It reminds me that I got RIP-OFF and it pisses me off ggrrrr.... Bobby 22:40:23 9/17/2005 |
![]() Parking is good. Store is a little hard to find, but if you go inside the Ranch 99 market you will see a little mall and it is in there. Very clean store and well organized. Also very well lit. I was especially impressed with the selection of Discus which were the main fish sold there. No saltwater. Many of the tanks are constantly monitored with PH probes which are visable to the customer. I'd definately go back. This is worth the drive too if you want to get Discus. Jeff 21:08:14 2/19/2005 |
![]() I have searched the Bay Area for good quality discus and found most fish stores have only a few discus. When I found this store I was very pleased. Their tanks are clean and the discus fish look healthy discus. Their prices may seen a bit higher than other stores but this mom and pop store care about their fish. Tony, the owner was very helpful and interested in providing "customer service". This is a good discus resource. Lizzy 20:08:41 9/20/2004 |

To Whom It May Concern: On Saturday September 18, 2004, I purchased 3 fish from Sunrise Tropicals, 200 Skyline Plaza, in Daly City. The total cost for the fish was $49.32. One of the fish I purchased, a silver Arowana fish, cost $20.00 (excluding tax). From the store, I went immediately home, taking care to handle the fish gently, and introduced them to the tank gradually, letting the bags they were in rest in the tank water, before releasing the fish. Two days later, Monday September 20, 2004, I came home to find the Arowana had died. I immediately checked the other fish and they were fine. I checked the water temperature and the PH. It was 80 degrees and the PH was 7. My tank is a 100 gallon tank and the water had been changed less than a week before. My conclusion was that the fish I was sold was either unhealthy or that I was misled into buying the wrong fish for my tank. Before I bought the fish, I asked the proprietor of Sunrise Tropicals if she thought the silver Arowana would be a good match for the tank and I explained to her in detail the tank and the types of fish in the tank. She reassured me that there would be no problem. Even though I have taken care of tropical fish for well over 15 years, I depended on the retailer to give me accurate advice, especially since the fish was what I consider to be expensive. On Monday, when I realized the fish was dead, I immediately called Sunrise Tropicals to alert them to what had happened, so that we could try and come to an agreement about what should be done. The proprietor blamed the death of the fish on the fact that we had 2 other fish (Silver Dollar fish), already in the tank and suggested that the cause of the death was their fault. This is contrary to the advice she had given us when we bought the fish. Thus we were misled into buying a fish that the proprietor believed would be killed as soon as it was introduced to the tank. However, despite what the proprietor claims, it is common knowledge that silver dollar fish are peaceful, community fish, and none of the other fish we introduced at the same time have been harmed. Despite my best efforts to work with the proprietor, she refused to offer a refund or exchange. Common practice amongst most Tropical Fish retailers is to exchange the fish if the fish dies shortly after purchase. This is a fair and reasonable practice that has been arrived at through trial and error in the retail Tropical Fish world. I believe that the proprietors at Sunrise Tropicals are engaging in false advertisement, unfair, and unreasonable business practices. I am requesting that your department look into this matter and conduct a review of their business license. Hopefully, some sort of action upon your part in this matter will protect the future rights of consumers and fish lovers alike. The address of the business: |
![]() Store is in a shopping mall inside the main building. Easy to park hard to find. Storewas clean for a strip mall. Security bewacons screamed as you came in and if you got to close to the door in the back - really annoying because they have a nice display tank but if your near the door way it goesoff so that you never really get to see the tank. Discus heaven with one of the nicer selections. Big tanks - nice for the fishes except they have the tiny betta bowls and the rest of the fish looked overstocked and in dirty tanks. Prices seemed pretty good but broken english didn't allow us to check tech advice. Also unique discus policy - 60 days if you buy their tank live close and don't mind having them come to your house. Overall nice mom and pop shop. Pisces 09:07:45 9/01/2004 |
