About FishStoreReview.com
We launched this site purely as a public service for fish keepers and aquarists who are either new to the area, or don’t have a real grasp of what stores are locally available. We’re hoping that by allowing fellow hobbyists to comment on different aspects of each store, potential customers can find stores that match their interests (such as cichlids, plants or marine fish) and can also patronize stores that deserve our business--those that treat their customers and livestock well, are honest, strive to educate their customers, and hire knowledgable employees. It is our goal that this will be a much more informative tool than simply an online yellow pages, one that allows cichlid fanciers to go to a store that has a good African cichlid selection, for instance.
We do not own a fish store, nor do we have any association or vested interest in any of the stores reviewed. We do care about the hobby, and want to support small, good stores that are struggling in the face of online stores and giant chains.
The more reviews we get--the better. It’s unlikely that one person has the expertise to cover all aspects, so the more feedback, the better. We hope to make this a useful site, and we hope that it will grow to cover more geographic locations.
About the Rating System
Along with written reviews, we've asking our users to rate each store. A five-fish rating is as good as it gets. Ratings go down from there in increments of half-fishes, all the way to a half fish.
